I have a 55g tank that has been running since Feb, 2006. In the last few weeks, I've started to notice a lot of green algae forming a mat like covering over the rock work. It isn't hair algae. I have no phosphate problems and all I can figure is:
1. it's flow related. I was running two MJ900s and two MJ1200s along w/a Mag 7 sump return pump. About a month ago, I ditched all but one 1200 and installed a SCWD w/OR3500. Last weekend, I re-installed an MJ1200 pointing downward to see if it helps.
2. Lighting. I have Four TEK T5s and the actinics run from 7-9am and then the daylights (GE 6500 and 11,000k) come on. The daylights go off at 7:30 (on 10.5 hrs) and the actinics stay on until 9pm (actinics on 14hrs). I'm wondering if it's all light (specifically too much actinic) related.
3. I've been running a 9w UV sterilizer and maybe the bulb needs to be replaced.
