At first my tank had what looked to be cyano growing on some of the live rock ( red slimy algae that spread a thin layer over the rock ) but now that is mostly gone. A green mossy looking algae is now growing on the live rock as well as a very dark purple algae.
The green algae is growing on the live rock as well as the glass of the tank quite quickly ( the front of the tank starts getting lightly covered about once or twice a week ). The algae is pretty much all over the tank in different places and all over the glass.
The dark purple algae seems to be growing only on the live rock and it looks slimy. It also grows out what look like tentacles that sway from the flow of the tank. It kind of spreads similar to the cyano ( a thin slimy layer ) but it also is stringy. The algae is only in small amounts on the live rock but near some coral.
I have some mushrooms, a torch coral, frogspawn, hammer coral, and a toadstool leather( I think - bottom front right ) as well as 2 hermit crabs, 2 cleaner snails, 3 small nassarius snails, a peppermint shrimp (I have some Aiptasia), and a percula. I usually feed frozen Spirulina Shrimp and Mysis Brine Shrimp (alternating) once every 3 to 4 days in fairlt small amounts
I was wondering mainly how to keep the greenish algae down to a minimum ( if possible ) and if the dark purple algae is dangerous and how to get rid of it.
Any help in any aspect to my tank parameters, setup, or maintenance is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
