If I scrape this slimy looking green algae with bubbles off my tank will it make it spread everywhere? I have a green mithrax crab that is supposed to eat this but he stays in one corner and can't reach this anyway.

That isn't bubble algae (valonia), it is better described as slime algae. You don't "spread it" because it is already everywhere in your system. It simply grows large when flow, lighting and nutrients are best for it. By all means remove it where you can, I tend to dislodge that kind of algae and direct it into a filter-socked overflow.

Thank you, I thought it was bubble algae because there is a bubble at the top of all the long slimy looking strings and they all start with a bubble that grows to long strings over a couple of days

The bubble algae most people will mention is a fully green balloon-like bubble, and they can get to huge sizes.

I'd just siphon this stuff up during a water change. It's true that it's dormant pretty much everywhere in your system, but it can't hurt to remove nutrients by getting clumps of it out of your tank en masse.
