Green conch care

I saw tank raised green conch for sale last week. They were advertised as algae control. How would these do in a reef tank? I don't want to buy somthing that is a coral eater. I am looking for something to reduce Valero (sp) algae other than Emerald crabs. These conch seems to be burying in the sand I felt they may be dentritus (sp) eaters.

A queen conch perhaps? They aren't a good species for reef tanks. If fed properly they grow very quickly and max out at almost a foot long. There are other conchs such as Strombus alatus (Florida fighting conch) and other smaller species that are fine for reef tanks if there is enough open sand. As adults they aren't climbers and only eat what's on the sand or low enough on the rocks and glass that they can reach. They do eat algae, but none of them eat Valonia. Very few animals do.
