I was wondering how I can get rid of green hair alage is there a fish? I have hermit crabs and snails. 120 gal reef running for 6 months 2 250 watt mh 0n for 5,5 hours and 2 96 watt atinics on for 9 hours including the time with the mh

Growing macroalgae to compete with it, using gfo(phospahte removeres) , water changes, dosing vodka/sugar. beware of vodka/sugar it lowers your oxygen.

Make sure you tap water does not have phospahtes, nitrates.

Growing macroalge is what worked for me. Last week I removed that came back but for the most part I'm hair algae free.

I use PO4 Minus (easiest of all phosphate removing techniques) and Kent Phosphate Sponge in a 250 micron bag in the sump. I tried Rowa and the Phosphate Sponge in 2 separate Phosreactors for a while, but it was just too much of a pain to service them. I also dont think they worked all that well either.

The only snails/crabs I have come across which eat hair algae are Astrea Snails.
