green hair algea

I have a mini outbreak and added some mexican turbos, man they chow it down.I'm also reducing nitrates they were pretty high and I didn't realize it.How's your levels of phosphate and nitrates? The hair is starting to die off now that the nitrates are comming down.HTH

Astreas or turbos are good. I would look at your nitrates and phosphates if you want to completely rid yourself of it. Excess nutrients are most likely to blame.

you could also cut back on your light period, I cut mine back to 6hrs a day and mine was gone in about a week. Also do some research on your charcol as I have read that it can contribute to the problem depending on what kind it is.

thanks, i am going to cut the lighting back 1 -2 hours per day till i hit that mark. I never really was ****ed untill i noticed it spreading. I'm going to start 5 gal / day water changes as well.

One more thing to check.Test the water comming out of your RO/DI,my town adds so much damn phosphates I had to add another DI canister to the system.I think people assume just because they have a RO/DI the water is good.I test for phosphates, nitrates, silicates.I have 2 RO/DI's in my house one for the tank and one for drinking water.I added spectrapure DI's to both systems..HTH too
