I have an 80 gallon tank that has been set up for about a year or a year and a half. would I be able to keep one. I feed cyclops very offten. Every day if I can.

Also would it be able to live thru some moving. I plan on doing upgrades so I will have to tank it out the tank. thanks

i just added one to my tank, i was told to look under the mag float glass cleaner and if you could see a lot of them running around under that it would be a good indication that your tank may be ready. i waited about 8 months before i added mine, i have always read that about a year is good time frame to wait.

Do you have a sump, fuge, anything that would give the pods sanctuary? Much to my chagrin, my pods love my bryopsis. It makes pulling it out a pain, because I lose a dozen pods or so per "tuft." Not a huge dent, considering I have two gallon-sized bags worth of chaeto in the 'fuge, but I feel bad because I'm taking my rainford goby's meals. :(

yeah i wuld say ok, but i would want to set up a refugium if i were you if you didnt already have one.

Sorry for not getting back. Ive been kinda busy. I just got a small one. about 3/4 inch. I plan on making a fuge soon. rite now im just running a fluval and a rena but whenever I pull them out to clean im always finding little bugs all in them. Also should I put rock in thoes to help.

It is acclimateing right now and I put cyclops in ther to see if it will eat that but it seems too scared to notice the cyclops.

Thanks

I've kept a green spoted mandarin for over 6 years in an 80g tank. Hes grown alot and never looks hungry. I do have a refuge on the tank and lots of LR in the display. You should be fine as long as you only have one fish eating the coepods.

Ok will this fish jump alot. It just jumped out of the tub I was acclimating it in like 3 times. Im kinda scared now.

I've never known one to jump...sheesh, probably agitated. hopefully you've got a deep tank: they stick close to bottom.

I have a standard 80 gallon tank. Its in the tank now. Ill try to get a picture. Shes hangin out behine my leather and the lights are off so ill try to get a picture of her.

Ok. Picture wont happen tonight. I will try again when the lights turn on. My brother took the good camera to Japan for 2 years

Good luck with your little jumper:)!

For others intrested in Mandarins:

I'm keeping 4dragonets at this point and I'd rather be safe then sorry. I ask the ppl at the petstore to feed the dragonets in front of me to see which ones are eating/ preferably frozen foods. It can be a pain to get them to eat at home if they do not eat at the store.
Sometimes your tank might be ready but the fish are not:(

Well If I see it thinning down I can get my small 10 gallon get some rock and buy a bottle of pods so it can live. But the sixline eats the pods too?

And the store had this mandrin in ther coral tank for about a month or so and it looks healthy. But also ther fug is crazy full of rocks and cheato.

Also what would be a good temporary fuge for my tank that wont look to ugly

yeah. the sixline's mouth is perfect for pod hunting. i have a possum wrasse that has the same body as the sixline and all it does is hunt for pods on the rockwork and sand. in fact, i believe he already wiped out the amphipods and is trying to pick off the copepods. hell stop and eat what i feed but goes back to hunting

So its been roaming around all day pickin at the rocks so ther seems to be food for it ther. Unless she likes to pick at nothing. Seems to be doing good so far.

Here is a bad pic. of her. You can kinda see it in the middle. realy tiny behind the rock.

Here is the "fuge" type thing I made. Ther is a small glad tub filled with rock under the bigger rocks that are hideing it
