I have a green mantis shrimp in my tank and i dont know if anybody wants it but if you do name your price i'm giving it a couple days so if somebody wants it hurry if not it's meeting the toilet.

post for sale in the rc selling forum, people will pay up to 50$ on there. shipping is a little bit of a pain tho.

Post it here for free before flushing, Ive alwasy gotten rid of them quick, or consider keeping it, they ,make awesome pets. Mine has his own 8 gallon tank and is full of personality. Also Im not sure if she still does it but Marcye at SITC used to provide a foster home service for wayward mantis shrimp, thats where I got mine from.

I agree, please don't flush! I'll take it and find a home for it. I just hate to see anything killed and can always find someone that will take it.

FINALLY!!!!! A post telling someone NOT to kill off an unwanted critter in thier tank.
It just bothers me so much when everyone wants to kill something off simply because they are told it is a pest, not worth having or is bad to have.

If someone wants to keep it they are low maint. Mine is doing fine with just a tank, powerhead with sponge filter, monthly h20 changes and a bunch of LR.

I have a green mantis in a 12 gallon Aquapod. Very low maintenance and a very cool little critter...although you need to keep your fingers away from them! Ask me how I know, ;) Mine has bright orange patterns. If anyone has a small tank, these really are very intelligent creatures with one of the most complex eye systems of any animal. Give it a try!

I have seen some photos of some really colorful ones. Too bad they are a pest as they are so beautiful and different.
I guess you could say that you are lucky if you find one of these guys.

Marcye, how big do you think that mantis in the video was? Just curious...I love Monty, our mantis. He is so entertaining and cute...I guess a face only a mother can love...lol..

Which video, the Cali one with the octopus? Just a guess, but I'd think somewhere around 12 inches? I know they can get that big. I'd hate to run into him diving!

Btw, some more interesting articles for anyone who would like to learn more about mantis shrimp (I've been scrounging through my libraries of favorites). The first has some great links to other articles on the left side of the page:

Well, some research points to that one possibly being Hemisquilla californiensis and they reach about 32 cm or 12.5 inches, so the above guess would probably be about right. Sheesh, I'll keep my little green guy!

Btw, that should be "my little green girl" as I think mine is a female Gonodactylaceus glabrous. It ranges about 8â€"œ80 mm or 3" which is about what she is now.
