green pagoda cup

Nince pagoda, mine went from green to yellowish too, how do this guys grow? do they build their own skeleton or encrust? mine seen that the flesh is starting to hung from the outer areas, I have mine for probably a year. they do like strong random flow.

They apper to grow their own. The peak in mine is the rock it is attached to. It grew down the rock a bit then "cupped" out away from the rock and up.

How do they dye corals?

I think they just immerse them in a heavily dyed solution of seawater, and the dye is slowly absorbed into the flesh of the coral.

FWIW, the green pagodas are a natural color. They don't look dyed.

Great pieces, BTW! ;)

I know I'm a little late, but thought I'd contribute anyways. You pagoda looks alot like one of mine, it's really nice. They are one of my favorite corals, but I dont know much about them. Here are some photos, I only have close ups.

Mine only open under light. They can eat alot, when they get a bunch of mysis, the polyps will close for a while, and then sometimes the main body of mine swells up and little red dimples appear across the green background. Anyone know anything about that?

Here is mine. Its not a cup coral, but seems to be the same polyps as a Pagoda. Its a little bigger than a baseball and is the first lps I purchased about a year ago. It eats like a pig and has shown signifigant growth in the last 8 months. It has been stung by a Frogspawn pretty badly and regenerated within a week. Easily one of the hardiest corals I own.

Looks like youre getting the hang of it kingfisher62. I bought a scroll and a pagoda on he same day about a year ago. I had some problems initially. Both promptly closed up and started eroding. I moved them around a bit and they finally got settled in and are both growing nicely now. The pagoda is doing the best, its purple with greenish polyps and the scroll is a deep yellow/orange. I rarely see the scroll extended (its the only thing in my tank that doesnt) but both are growing back. Unfortunately they wont grow over the bare skeletal portions, they're both extending at the edges.

So , how are everone's pagodas doin?
mine is doing well!
Had a minor crash couple of months ago and it had closed up for a while and became a dingy grey color after a month or so the color has come back totally and a post crash scar has healed up completely.
Now I know for sure it was never dyed !
Here is one shot but I will try to get a better one later.

Here's mine when I first got it as a frag.

And just over a year later. Still smaller than everyone else's, but it's at least doubled in size from when I got it.
