green slimer acro

Hi, I have a green slimer acro. When I purchased the frag it was a brownish red and has stayed that way up until a week ago. It has since started turning the green color it is supposed to be. Why was it the brown red color that I got it and how long will it take to completely turn the green. The piece is about an inch to an inch and a half tall. Thanks for any help!

Most likely the place you got it from didnt give it enough light. This would result in the overproduction of zooxanthellae to try and make up for the lost light. When the zooxanthellae reproduce they "brown" out the coral.

When the coral was placed in your tank your lighting was probably stronger, this gives the coral a suntan and the coral doesnt need as much zooxanthellae. This brightens the coral to a lighter color, in your case green.

Over the nest 3 weeks I would say from what you say will it turn to its true color under your lighting.

Hopefully someone with more experience then me can chime in and add detail :)

I would also suggest that thier color temp wasin the 10 to 6k color temp range, more yellow/red light.Which would encourage short term growth at the expence or color.
