Green star polyp not expanding.

Last night i bought a gsp. A rock covered in it the size of a football. Fully expanded at the seller. Got it home. Did a 5 second freshwater dip. Put it right in the tank. It had 3 hours of light last night and it's had 4 hours today and still not open even a little bit.

65g dt 30g sump. 48 white t5. 130w 8000k leds. (Blue leds on the way. Diy)

Why would it not have expanded by now?
I also bought a xenia frag at the same time and it's doing great.

It's probably still acclimating to your system. Different lights, different flow patterns etc. That freshwater dip probably made it mad too. Just give it a few days and it should bounce back to normal. If not, then you might have to start looking for answers.

I wouldn't worry about it. I have never met anyone able to kill GSP short of an entire tank crashing. I love the look of them, but they grow like weeds so you will have an entire tank of GSP before you know it :lolspin:

If none of your other corals are showing signs of trouble, I wouldn't fret. Some corals take longer to acclimate than others.

I agree that they can take a few days to fully open.

What's the flow on them like? Mine wouldn't open when I had them in a lower-flow area of the tank, so I moved them into the direct path of the powerhead.

Mine took about a week to open after adding them to my aquarium
Also, if you keep your nitrates low they won't expand too fast.

It's decent flow i think. I actually did aim the powerhead right at it. But it was too much for the nearby xenia. So I'll separate them tomorrow and try again.
