Green Star Polyp Problem

Stumped

New member
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but someone can move it if it is.
I purchased a nice GSP colony 2 days ago and it has yet to open. Params in the tank are normal w/ SG at 1.024 and temperature is stable around 80. Bubble and hammer coral are open and fine as are my leathers and I've had no recent problems with the setup.

Currently the GSP is located in an area with moderate flow and light. Its on a rock with a finger leather and nothing aggressive is near it. Any help would be great, thanks.

Just give it a few more days. It can take some time for them to open up. Just keep the water parameters in line and there shouldn't be a problem.

gsp are very sensitive to salinity, what r u checking it with,a hydrometer,or refractometer.

what is the optimal salinity for GSP?

Just to go off of this thread, I've had some GSP for about 2 weeks now and they didn't open at all today. All of my tests are looking good. Some times my skunk cleaner or a snail goes over them and they retract. But nothing like that happened today.

You want your salinity 1.024 to 1.025, but the main trick is stability with your calcium and alk. Don't have to be totally constant, but withing reason.

I have a 24gal nano. MH 150watt 14k. High...well medium flow I would say. I find that if I change the water every week, not too much about 30% they love that. Probably keeps the alk and cal. stable they have grown from a nickle size handful of polyps to something along the lines of a small salad plate and now they are "crawling" up the side and back of the tank!

Is it normal for them to go into hiding for days at a time? Nothing has changed in my tank and all of my readings are looking good and yet they haven't come out for 3 days now! I'm worried now because I really liked them and had intended to move them to a more permanent home soon.

Put them under intense lighting, above the rockwork with medium to high flow towards them. Flow and Lighting are the key elements to keeping GSPs. I found out that they do not open at all with little to no flow

I have a small frag multiply and grow all over the backwall under intense MH
