Green Star Polyp - Will I rue the day?

So I want a Green Star polyp colony, but I hear that many people regret it.

I have a big flat rock/ledge at the top of my live rock structure and I think it would look killer covered in GSP. I don't want it to grow down though, just on that one rock if possible.

Anyone have any tips on them and price estimates on say, a 3x3inch frag?

The rock itself is about 8-10 inches long and about 5-6 inches deep. At the longest points at least.

About the only way to control GSP is to isolate them from any other hard surface. This includes other rocks, glass, filters, powerheads, skimmers ...... well you get the idea.

Price I guess would be around $20 from a LFS. If a local reefer has them you might get it for free.

I think it will eventually grow onto any rock that it is touching. Personally, I think it is very pretty and it is a good indicator of how your tank is doing. I have found that if my parameters are sliding, the GSP is the first thing to start looking poorly, which alerts me to scout out the problem. I have mine isolated on a rock that touches no other rocks and I often see this approach recommended. I don't remember what I paid for mine, though it is not an expensive coral. If you join a reef club, in all likelihood you can find someone selling it cheap or giving it away.

I have had my colony for about 6 months. It was like cveverly stated totaly isolated on a nice piece of live rock (about 5" by 4"). I have moved it once from the top of my live rock to the bottom. It has since started to creep up my the foundation of my LR pile. I do like the way it looks, but don't know if I'll be able to control it.
