Green Star Polyp

I am a first time user to Reef Central.

I have a bright green star polyp that I have been raising for about a year. Just recently, the coral does not expand with the except of a few polyps that barely make it out of the skeleton. These polyps look like tiny "daisies" and do not retract when touched by livestock in the tank.

Nothin has changed in the tank. Ph 8.2, Alk. 4.8, Calcium 450, No ammonia, no nitire, trace nitrate, temp 77-78. Only the increased activity of a Coral beauty that appears to be feeding on some red slime algae on the skeleton.

Any ideas?

This exact thing happened to me! I was so mad. How big is your tank. I have a nano. I just put a skimmer in the week before. It took all the nutrients out of my water, even the good ones. So, I turned it off and started feeding my GSP's rotifiers and they are making a come back. The red slime is growing on the dead polyps, try to baste it off with a turkey baster, before it kills your whole colony.

It is completely normal for GSP to retract for a few days to a week or slightly more. Then they come back stronger and better than before. Just be patient they will be fine, they must be the hardiest corals ever.
