What would cause gr. star polyp to go from opening when T5s come on til they go off at 6 was 8 to only open during HID operation 5hrs?

GSP was opening for 10 hrs. a day thats how long T5 are on Then they went to opening 5hrs. a day only while metal halides are on. The last 2 days they didnt open at all. Water tests fine LPS and SPS are also doing well.Have noticed blue green chromis hovering in polyps and maybe use for toilet .Dont know why fish starting doing that. Could that affect this coral?

Mine did that as well when I got them for the first time. They open up all te time now

Your new lights. Whene replacing your lights u should reduce your light time for the next few weeks. This will reduce stress on the coral.

Can it be algae build up on the starpolyps?did you ever cleaned their surface(the mat) with a smooth brush?

Algae could be the problem. Most likely though I would just ride it out. The only thing to survive a nuclear fall out will be cockroaches and star polyps.

I have a long stem green polyps and they have some algae on them. I am new to the hobby and loving it so far.So you can use a soft toothbrush on the mat,what do you rub real lightly and that wont harm the coral. I had a out burst of algae last week.

Mine did the same thing, areas started to not open and I found a light coat of brown green algae in those areas . I took it out and dipped in diluted Lugol`s Solution. The coating pealed away when shook . Did it yesterday and will check it out when I get home
