Green star polyps and nuisance algae...

green algae is smothering my gsp frag, it's not slimy, it's just embedded in and around the gsp :sad2:any thoughts?

I had this problem for about a year. It would grow within the mat and I would just pull it out. My star polyps didnt really care after doing it for so long. They would retract and come right out again . Seek out the problem that is causing the HA, and manually remove it around the GSP. They are hardy so don't worry. Just dont crush them only pinch the HA and go at it.

Hair algae in my gsp too. Very annoying. Running gfo and carbon in reactors, maintain my sandbed, feed light, turkey baste the rocks liberally yet it persists. I've even hit the rock directly with hydrogen peroxide and melted the HA all away. Gsp came right back out, HA grew right back.

Yes because you did not remove nutrients from the system. Actually worse, by removing the HA in the display, you are removing what filter you do have. It's counter intuitive, but if you leave HA in the display, it will keep nutrients down in the water.

I also hear good things about peroxide for hair algae, just search for exact details to develop a safe protocol.
