Green Star Polyps Bleaching?

I am curious if anyone has ever experienced Green Star Polyps bleaching under more intense lighting? Everything I have read on them says they can bleach under low lighting...and that more intense lighting will make them color up more.

A while back I bought a beautiful cluster of "Starburt" green star polyps, and they where beautiful green, they where under PC's lighting for a while, and seemed to do great, even was able to *** a peice of it that is doing great as well, but I upgraded to a metal halide lighting, and I know this sounds crazy, but I am kind of attached to this chunk of green star polyp, but it has started to what seems to me be bleaching. It is about 16" down (half way) from a 250w metal halide. It has started loosing its green coloration, and turning kind of a pinkish white...the green is not totally gone, but I have noticed a change...not a better one in my opinion...I liked the bright green.

I am not sure what to do other than take it out of that tank and place it in a nano tank I set up...with the PC's that where on the main tank. It seemed to do better under the pc's....Temp is 82-83, salinity is 1.025, everything checks out fine test wise...Everything else in the tank is doing fine as far as I can tell...I just noticed the Green Star polyps to me look to be bleaching...

I searched and couldn't find anything pertaining to green star polyps having too much light...is that possible? How do I get them to color back up? Or should I put them in the Nano tank?...I know it sounds crazy but I kind of like them...:o

what are the other params? pH, and whatnot? More than likely its bleaching due to not being acclimated to the halide... How long have you had the halide over it? Did you put any screens or anything over the tank to get it used to the new lighting? Or did you just simply put the new lighting on?

I've always experienced the opposite with green stars. The brighter the better IME. Mine tend to get better coloration once they've been under t5's or metal halides after a while compared to pc's.

Water quality tests out normal, No Ammo, No Nitrites, No Nitrates, P.H. is 8.4, Salinity is 1.025, I do dose for Calcium as I also have clams in the tank. The halide has only been on for less than a month....I didn't do the screen, but I had the original PC's on there as well, and what I did was have them on and then turn them off while the metal halide kicked on for an hour, and then after that hour I turned the metal halide off and had the pcs come back on for the rest of the time. I did this for a week, and then bumped up the hours the following week...till I now finally have just the metal halide on and the pcs I took off the tank.

I've had GSP encroach on my SPS corals that was within inches of a 400W MH bulb. The polyps seem to grow smaller in intense light, but I have not seen bleaching. Have you checked your water temp? The MH may have raised it.
