Green star Polyps

Hello, I wanted to open up a thread for one of the most common, yet beautiful corals(to some not) that is found in our reefing hobby. Easy to care for, but be careful with placing them adjacent to other rocks you dont want encrusted with GSPs.

Here is a picture of some neon green star polyps I got from a friend. I like how the gsp resemble shag carpet of the sea...or like a field of wheat blowing in the wind.

The thing people need to know.. is this CAN grow over sand and vertically onto other rocks. I will post pics tonight but my GSP after I made an island for it on a rock, now is branching over the sand and has a runner suspended in air. Beautiful stuff though.

a "runner", interesting term. My gsp rock is starting to have protrusions(or "runners") so I will be sure they do not touch surrounding rocks. I ripped off some of the runners and glued them to frag plugs, theyll be heading down to the LFS in a week or so.

My GSP grows out onto the sand, from which I sometimes chop off pieces and glue them to my tank's back glass. It will spread to cover the back of the tank without getting into your rocks. That makes it easy to remove and hand out frags to people.

Superglue. Lower the water level first, it dries instantly when wet. That glue is no joke, easy to get your fingers stuck together.

That just gets the GSP started. As it grows it adheres to the wall on its own.

Yeah mine got very bright and long. But slowly started to take over the tank. Definitely isolate them. Still beautiful though.
