No I am not talking about the color.

To me it seems like this hobby is full of different things that are just killing the environment. but on the bright side there are people out there that are doing what they can to help the world. if you are one of these people or know one tell me here as well as maybe show some PICs.

EX. in both of the tanks that i have i don't use Caulerpa. another thing is that the 150 Gallon tank everything is as close to a real ECO system as possible.

There's nothing environmentally friendly about reefing. I wish everyone would stop going on about it, or keeping a tank and bragging about how 'green' you are.

We're taking animals out of pristine nature and wasting tons of both drinking water and energy to keep them alive.

the point is not to say that we are improving the environment. just doing less to destroy it. plus it is nature to learn ant this is what the hobby is all about (what goes on in the ocean).

theres nothing wrong with trying to have less of an impact on the environment. just like a texan.

What does not keeping Caulerpa have to do with the environment? Do you have photos of what you have done? What steps have you taken to keep your tank closer to the ecosystem?

lol on the caulerpa thing. I think your heart's in the right place, but I'm pretty sure mother nature could care less whether you have caulerpa in your tank or not.

On the water-using note - yes we're consuming water, but on the other side we're not polluting any. There's a big difference.

Last time I checked Texas was the leading producer of wind energy and has contributed something like 1/2 of its growth of the past few years. It is in fact just like a Texan to actually DO something about rather than talk about it.

cool!

as for me as of now i have not been able to do much that is why i made this thread i wanted to get some ideas for my dream tank that would be 500 gallons. what is cool is i plan on using LED's for lighting because they are more efficient as well as you can do some crazy things with them.

ca for the Caulerpa. it is a weed choking out different spices of coral and plant live when introduced to i a new environment. and when you pluck it out and just throw it away it has been known to make it to the ocean using the storm drains (weird isn't it)

was that a large amount of money? how long until you think the solar panels will pay themselves off

ive been to texas and i know texans. ive never seen so many pointlessly lifted massive gas guzzlers in my entire life. It is seriously hilarious. when was the last time you needed four wheel drive in downtown dallas. btw I wont mention the last texan that DID something rather than talking, oh wait am i too late. lighten up i still love you.

I am an electrician and went to a class for it so I installed them myself in 4 days. Mine will pay for themselves in 2 more years. They make me about $1,000.00 a year in electricity.
If you have to pay someone they will pay for themselves in about 10 years at the current power costs.
I got back in rebates $14,000.00 from the power company and about $6,000 in taxes

I hate say it, and not to start a fight, but texas is one the highest polluting states now. There is less enviornmental regulation there and this why manufactoring and industry are booming there.

I AM from Colorado so i do not know all that much about Texas

that is so cool I totally what to try something like that. but i might want to add some wind mills because there are days out here where the wind blows so hard you see your eyes are glued shut.

The easiest way for everyone to make a difference on the environment is to save on electricity. Buy electrically efficient equipment for your tank and be happy.

I have a major problem with this discussion. THe problem I have is that people do not fully understand the hype of the "green" movement. More and more people these days are starting to understand that there is no such thing as global warming and this green hype is nothing but a fad such as parachute pants and Crystal Pepsi. A volcanic eruption releases more greenhouse gases in one eruption than man can in a 100 years. The first answer to this question is the best in this entire thread. THIS HOBBY IS NOT ECO-FRIENDLY!!!. If you are so worried about the environment, sell your tank, invest in a windmill, and go buy a hybrid vehicle. The only reason to be eco-friendly in this hobby is to pad your wallet with money saved on energy efficient equipment and not because you think you are saving the earth. Just my 2 cents.
