I've been a lurker for a while, occasionally posting in the other parts of the board but never wandering over to the club section.

About me, I upgraded a 20 gal long to a 75 gal about 2 months ago. Things are going well but I haven't set up the refugium and skimmer yet so my nutrients aren't being controlled. I have 2 mushrooms, brown and some green zoas, a palythoa colony, 2 large star polyp rocks, and a branching frogspawn. I also have a 9" snowflake eel, watchman goby (missing at the moment :( ), emerald crab, peppermint shrimp, and a pistol shrimp. I'm sure the shrimp will end up gone due to the snowflake, but I'm hoping to keep my pistol (red striped w/ blue legs). Plus I will probably get rid of the peppermints soon.

I have 2 problems right now. What fans are you using to cool your tanks. I want to avoid using the 4" PC fans because of the need for a fairly large amperage AC-DC converter.

Second, aiptasia. I caved in finally and started doing boiling water dips of my none coral occupied rocks. However, now I have aiptasia surrounding my zoas and palythoas and a withering patch of Xenia (Doing better in this last week with a new position). Does anyone know where I could locally pickup some Berghia Nudibranch? I was hoping to get 3 and let them control the aiptasia rather than eradicate it.

Finally, Is there an actual club that meets? I checked the website for it, but it's out of date and only says to go to the Florida Aquarium. That's kind of a large place to just start wandering about looking for a meeting.

Welcome to Tampa bay area. Yes there are meetings, I beleive, but I am just to the north, in the ANCHOR club and we were having regular meetings, but just kind of slowed to nothing over the holidays. I believe we are trying to get one together for FEb. if you want to drive north a bit.

Meanwhile, I have had nothing but good karma with the TB club. Someone will chime in with local meeting info. If I can help with anything in the meantime, just let me know.

No experience with the nudibrachs, but I have had some success with Joe's Juice on the Aiptasia.

Again, welcome,

diane

guba807,
Welcome, unless you keep the eel WELL fed, you will probably lose anything he can get in his mouth. I have had success sneaking up on the aptasia with the (don't know the technical word for them) extended grabbers that I have. It is basically a plastic set of pliars that allow you to grab something in the tank without putting your whole arm in. I didn't have a lot but I got rid of 2 out of 3 that I had in my 20 gal. The other one was too quick for me but I haven't tried since. That was a couple weeks ago and I haven't seen any more or noticed any problems from doing this. Someone else will more than likely chime in with better ideas than mine.
Get a clamp on fan from WalMart and attach it to your refugium when you get it set up and point it at the surface of the water. Some on here claim a 1-3 deg lowering temp from that alone.

They do have club meetings usually once a month. They will post the times and location on here when the next one is scheduled. I haven't had a chance to go to one yet but plan to soon.

Welcome to the bay area. Meetings are usually the 2nd Saturday of each month. Keep an eye on this forum and you'll see the info. I'm a fan of Joe's Juice for Aptasia. I am a believer in skimmers for nutrient control, and if you're going to keep that eel healthy, you will have nutrients.
