I recently purchased a used tank. it never had a grounding probe nor was it connected to a gfci by its previous owner. I added a gfci and the tank runs fine but when I plug the grounding probe in the gfci trips every time. any thoughts ?
That means you have stray voltage somewhere in the tank, like a pump or powerhead or heater. Plug them in one at a time and then you will find the source..
thanks for the advise. turned out one of the pumps on the wave maker was the culprit. this tank was set up for over a year in my partners office before I purchased it from him with no gfci or grounding probe. luckily he never got zapped..
