Group Buy: Refractometers

Nice Justin,

Please don't let my timely inability to cordinate a trip to Sac (90 miles) to get carbon confuse you with my ability to provide solar quotes in a timely manor.

Avalance Wolf, I too am excited to get *MY* present. But it will probably have to wait until next year....

Justin, by the way it was nice to meet and talk with you too. Thanks for holding on to that carbon for so long.

Just an FYI:

I was a little thrown by the calibration fluid. It doesn't come with any instructions, and when I used it to calibrate, my new refractometer read 1.024 and my old one read 1.028. I had assumed it would show 1.000. I did a little searching, and found that the 53.0mS is actually a measure of salinity (duh, me), and converts to 35.00ppt or 1.0259 specific gravity. Just wanted to save everyone else the confusion.

I was just going to ask that. thank you

Also concerning pick up for tomorrow. I totally forgot with everything going on and people contacting me. I have a party to be at between 1pm and 1:30. I do know know what time I will be back, I am not sure when it ends.

I will be home till 12:30 pm and am completely open from about 8am till that time.

My cell is 916-612-4807. You can call after say 5pm and see if I am back home.

Sorry about the confusion. Since its the holidays I know we are all running around a little hectic.

Edwin , I hope to be able to be in that area around that time. I will try for the morning but like you said Holidays in all.

Hopefully I can get a brief lesson on working it also as this new tech is well new to me been using the pointer type since I got into this hobby.

Thanks to all that made this happen !!

so just to be sure i'm doing this right... i use the calibration fluid and tune it to read at 35 ppt or 1.0259? if so, i'm so glad i got this!!! my salinity is 1.029 while my hydrometer has been reading at 1.025... i'm dripping water through airline tubing to slowly bring it down.

palileo, I've heard several stories about such errors with swing line hydrometers. I've gone through more than the cost of an refractometer in purchasing them due to failing indications. Over time even after soaking in vinegar they still tend to read erronous. Looking forward to my refractomoter
