????????????hes a coral minatus by the way

Scrapping is normally a fishes natural instinct to get something off of it. We have tangs start to do this at the store days before they show symptoms of ick. The gasping thing however could be a number of things from slight oxygen depletion in the system to stress from what ever is making him scratch or just him learning a new weird habit.

The only other thing I can think of is my tusk did this for a month after I had to use pliers to pull him out of the mouth of my volitan. He scratched, twitched constantly and gasped a bit, however he never stopped eating and is fine now.

Keep an eye on him closely, and try and get a good look at him daily to make sure there isn't anything on him.

there should be plenty of oxegen since my powerhead and filter produce alot of bubbles and movement but he does tend to stay closer to the surface and i will look out for parasites, could nitrates cause him to do this?i will be doing a massive water change this weekand and i will also use the 10ml dosage of stress coat to help with slime coating if that helps all the other fish are fine tho so ill keep watch but could nitrates cause this?

couple mounths he seems to be acting a little better after yesterdays waterchange but he is still breathing a bit heavy/frequent but i will be doing a bigger waterchange tomorrow since yesterdays was so small i didnt think of this before but he might also be doing things out of boredom so i will ad a peice of live rock as well to add more hideing places he had a setup simaler to that at the lfs with a cave in each corner side and some rock in the middle but so far no ich
