Fish Crazy
i may be blind or in the wrong section but if someone could direct me in the right area that would be great, iv been trying to propagate green star polyps for a little wile now and have read that decent water flow will make then grow like crazy, i was wondering if anyone knows any other tricks to help accelerate the growth rate? my water parameters are all normal 0ppm on the nitrates nitrites and ammonia calcium is at about 430-440ish any kind of guidance would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I do put mine in high water flow and high light and have seen significant growth. They have crawled over an entire 16" section of LR and have spread to several other rocks. If I could do it over, I probably would not have added them. They are pretty cool to look at but are definitely invasive. If you are keeping your parameters stable, have good flow, and high intensity lighting they will grow. Another one that looks/acts similar is a mat briareum that is taking over the left side of my tank. I would trade either one of those in a heartbeat for clean LR of equal weight.

First off what is "a little while"?

What are the rest of your water test parameters? Several factors all come into play for any coral to grow as it should.

I've got it in high flow, low flow and medium flow areas all growing great. I've also got it in HIGH light and medium light with no difference.

Key is keeping ALL of your parameters at optimal ( not just within range) and keeping them stable then add a bit of patience. In no time at all you'll be saying , "I wish I had never added GSP to my tank!" LOL!

Actually if "controlled" it makes a beautiful back-drop. I have it covering about 40% of the back of one tank and it looks really nice especially when the LED are mostly on BLUE setting.

thats exactly what i was looking to do!!! i think it looks great as a backdrop a little wile is about 5 months now. its under led lighting with moderate to high flow

mag- 1250ppm
phos- 0ppm
ph-8.2
salinity 1.026
all of my parameters are for the most part right in check to where they should be.

The largest rock with the mother colony I bought in February from Tropicorium in Detroit. I actually brought it back in my carry-on w/o water wrapped in wet newspaper. Within a week it was showing polyp extension, and now it's all over the place. So, it's pretty resilient stuff. The rock probably weighs over 10lbs and makes an arch in my scaping that I wish wasn't covered with GSP. I had put ricordea on it and two pieces of SPS and it's crowding both of those corals out.

Getting it started on your back glass is a cool idea, just be careful and isolate it, this is the kudzu of the SW hobby.

Wish you lived closer and I'd trade with you, but it's probably not practical to ship it.

how far are you from williamsport? i have a friend that lives there and come to jersey every weekend, i think its williamsport
