Growth, from January to May (for drbronx and others)

Hello everyone, hello drbronx!

I just wanted to share a couple of images, to illustrate
the growth of corals. My tank is a 20gal with 65w PC
lighting, one bulb actinic, and one 10k. No skimmer.

I got from Drbronx a frag of green slimer back
in January and he said he would like to know
how it does. The first pic was taken in January 2006,
the green slimer frag is right in the center of the pic:

The next photo was taken on 5/11/2006:

Also, drbronx, the neon green nepthia is doing
quite well and has grown quite a bit!

Thanks for the frags,
Alvaro

What happened to the sargassum I saw in the first pic?

The sargassum started growing scaringly fast and I had to cut most of it out. There are still a couple of branches left which I am trying to keep under control.

What are you doing for water changes and or mechanical filtration?

I change 2 gallons every week. I use distilled water for changes and replacement due to evaporation. For mechanical filtration, I have a small over-the-back Aquaclear filter, with carbon, a sponge and a few pieces of live rock. I don't add any chemicals or dose anything extra.

As you can see I have some problems with algae and cyanobacteria, probably due to the fact that I don't use a skimmer, but on the other hand I am very satisfied with how happy the corals look and wouldn't like to change the system much (if at all).

Thanx for the update Alozano. I'm always curious to see how different corals fare under different lighting schemes. Looks like the slimer has evidenced some growth under the PC's. I am finding that many sps's do well under lighting other than halides though growth may be a bit slower. It would be great to hear from others who are growing sps's under pc's etc. The xenias look terrific in your tank! Don't hesitate to cut healthy amounts back for good nutrient export. I remember how painful it was the first time I did that given how much I had to pay for my initial frags. Keep up the great work!
