Growth ID Please

Unsure what this is but it has been rapidly showing up in my tank on my rocks. They are only noticeable from close up.

 
I'm curious to know as well. Best post this in the ID your hitchhikers section where people are very helpful with this sort of thing.
 
It seems to be hard where it attaches to a surface but once it released and is in my hands, it is soft.

It is in my sump too so it doesn't appear to need light at all. I see some areas on the sand bed where it is starting to take foot as well.

I looked up leucosolenia nautilia and I think that is what it is. I am having trouble finding ways to deal with it though. It doesn't seem to be a common problem.

sponges are beneficial as they are filters. Typically they grow in low light areas, I find the same in my sump and in some heavily shaded areas of my tank. If this is growing out in the open and is unsightly to you, you can pull the rock and physically remove the sponge.
