Growth Speed

Been doing some research and wanted to get a general idea of how fast everybody's zoas grow new heads?

Obviously there are a lot of factors including lights and zoa type, but just wanted to get a general consensus of what everybody is using and the success they are having.

With mine it mostly depends on how many heads the original has but for me Im around one new head a month for every three pre-existing heads present on average.

From colonies that still fit on frag plugs, I'll get one or two new heads a month.

Lots of variables there, but I haven't measured enough to have confidence in any facts.

Good luck!

As others have mentioned including yourself, there are many variables which will determine the growth rate. Some people even in duplicated systems will have different growth rates and I suspect might be different strains of the same morph. One thing I can say for certainty from my observations are larger colonies tend to produce more new polyps than individual heads on plugs.

I'm with them I got a floating polyp and glued it to a frag rock, that was about 3 weeks ago and it has a new head that is just starting to open. So from one polyp to 2 in probably a month. I'm running a 150w 14k halide though....ive heard (I'm back to newb in the hobby) that LEDs don't grow quite as fast as halides will
