I know female GSM clowns tend to be agressive, and it is not uncommon for them to play rough with their mates, but mine has me concerned... Abotu six months ago I picke dup two GMS clowns, both juvi. Almost immediately they took on typical male and female behavior, one "shimmering"and generally showing submission, the other playing rough and nipipng at his fins a little - for a week or two this went on and his fins got a little beat up, but never TOO bad before things cooled down until this week.
About a week ago they "discovered" a patch of pink playthoa and began hosting in it, her spendign most of her time in the polyps and him nearby, either under or behind the rock they were on, and things seemed to be fine until. in the last 24 hours, she has begun beating up on him worse than ever - his fins have goen from perfectly healed to badly tattered, with big chunks missing from a few of them overnight. typically whe would swim up to the glass and greet me any time i approached the tank, but she won't even stop beating up on him long enough to do that.
In the last 6 months she has grown about 50% larger than him, reassuring my conclusion that she was a she and he a he, FWIW
I have placed him in the refugium for the time being, as at this rate i fear by the end of the weekend he won't have any fins left.
Anyone with insight into GSM behavior abe to explain this sudden brutality? one week from now im goign on vacation, and I'm afraid to leave them together if this behavior is going to continue while i'm away.
