its been about 2 weeks since i bought a frag from my lfs.
well it hasnt even extended a single polyp!
i am begining to worry. I acclimated it for about 45 mins.
the LFS had it under metal halides and now its under PC.
I also put in some other polyps at the same time and they are doing fine. What can i do?

well what are all your params?

Nitrates
amonia?
temp
pH
SG....

Without knowing those, its not possible to really help. I'm guessing you've got a bit of nitrates...GSP is usually the first thing to close when they get a bit higher. They can take it, no doubt, but they close up.

I would not be worried if i were you. I went on a 4 day vacation over the weekend once and when i came home my nitrates were around 150 and lots of stuff was closed up. I did some water changes and most of the stuff started opening up once i got them down to like 25 or so, but the gsp remained shut. I got the nitrates back down to a good range (less than 5) and they were still shut, and ended up not opening for a whole month. That colony has now been growing well for the last 8 months and has been fragged multiple times....so the nitrates didnt kill it :)

For what it's worth, I paid 20 dollars for a rock covered in GSP back when I started reefing. When i got it, all of the mat started falling off and desintegrated into the water. Nothing grew on the rock for 5-6 weeks, but by 2 months there was a patch of GSP about an inch diameter.... I thought it was a total goner, but it surely came back. Just give it some time.

Yes , your parameters would help . What kind of flow is it getting right now? Is it high or low in your tank?
When I got my first GSP they opened in an hour or so ,then they closed for over a week.
Be patient!

well, it is still closed to this day.
As for my parameters,
ammonia-0 (salifert)
nitrates/nitrites/ph- ???? (dont have tests for these)
calcium-460ppm
phosphate-0 (salifert)
It is getting good flow,
The photo period is from 9:00am till 8:00pm 196 watts of PC
everything else is doing fine, i just dont know whats wrong with it.

need to get those other tests. Not so much nitrites, but nitrates are very important to know, along w/pH. My guess is you have high nitrates.

I agree. pH and alkalinity is vital for any coral. Nitrates might be an issue as Sir_Dude said. Temp and salinity should be the easy ones. ;)

My mistake: I bought the GSP and put them on TOP of the rocks, and left them for 3 weeks, they never opened. I put them down on the sand, and they are now always open. I've learned, GSP's can take weeks to open when first purchased (I've seen many posts of this nature), and put corals on the bottom when first putting them in the tank. This may or may not help, just passing it on

I put mine in about a week ago and it came out within hours and is out almost all the time (even in the moon lights) but goes in when they are off.
