GSP closed-white?

Have had this frag for about 3 weeks and all was good. Today it did not open and is white. What may be going on? sg 1.026, no3 10ppm.alk 9 and cal. 400ppm. Only fish of concern would be a bi-color blenny but I have never seen him near it. Some mexican turbos too. Have leather frag and some type of zoa. That's it. Would really like a reply on this one. Thanks

Have you moved it lately? Are there any other coral next to it? Do you run carbon? Have you changed lights since you got your GSP?

Yes I run carbon and I have not moved it. When I got the frag there was also a mushroom on the rock. They are about .5 inces away. Pretty close to eachother if not touching when the gsp is open. Could this be of any significance?

Not sure, I was doing some googling and found a post from a site saying that someone was having the same issues and they had button polyps next to their GSP. They moved the GSP and it came back...whether bc they weren't next to the polyps or they liked their new resting place, I don't know and he didn't elaborate. I know that some soft coral can release things in the water that other coral do not like, is the carbon your running fresh? I also found something saying that too much light can affect them negatively, turning them white...just a thought.

Thanks for your input. I'm just miffed about it.Trying to figure it out. Was doing good and then bam-white. My alk was 5dkh last week until I got b-ionic in the mail last week and got the levels good. I only have 4x 54 watt fixture with crappy bulbs. Ordering new this week. Just seems dead to me. Could mt mexican tubo snails kill it. I have seen them on top of it before?

Been reading on wetwebmedia and it could possibly chemical warfare. Introduced a leather coral a week ago. Don't know if that is something or just coincidental?

Wouldn't think a fish picking at it would turn it white. GSP is a pretty hardy coral give it a couple of days and see it the polps come back out at all if not its probably a goner.

GSP have way stronger sting than any leather so I wouldn't worry about anything coral related bothering it. I keep all mine under 2-250 watt halides. They seem to do much better with intense lighting. Its probably a bacterial infection if the coral mat and the polyps are turning white and dying. I had about 3 dozen GSP frags a few months ago and lost about a dozen of them to an infection that was turning them white. It looked like the coral flesh was turning to white foam. Do yo have any pics? If its just the polyps that are turning white I would say its just bleaching from some environmental factor. Some pics and water parameters will help to diagnose.

Just wondering about this. I dosed the tank with Kent-Marine micro.vert and coincidently the gsp was dead within 2 days. Dosed it because some locals said they feed their corals-softies too. This supplement came with a second hand system I bought that had been shut down for 2 years. Does this have a shelf life? Could this be the culprit? Seems curious to me because it's definitely dead witnin 48 hours of dosing? Please respond and thanks

Just cracked off a piece and amphipods were eating it!!! After death or could they kill it. I know there's an answer here somewhere. Thanks

Thanks, maybe an infection. Nothing makes sense but that I guess.

Man o Man the little piece I had thought was dead-I left it as suggested, is showing signs of life again. Can't believe it really. Thanks again to RC. Always learning.I know this may sound ridiculous but it's a big deal to me!!! Thanks again

Was it the polyps that were white or the mat? My gsp's mat has been white since. Purchase almost a year ago but its been doing great. I don't think the mat us always purple. I'm glad to hear its doing better.
