I was sold my first frag yesterday and it is open and everything is good, but it was sold to me as a Branching GSP and I cannot find any information on this. Can anyone please help with the correct id or have any experience with this type of GSP? This is the only picture i can find that matches what i have http://www.aquaticartinc.com/item.php/40.

IME GSP have a very deep purple mat that encrusts very securely over the rockwork. While Briareum has a light purple (almost pink to off white) mat. It is also has a rubbery texture, you can grab one of the branches and peel it off the rock.

The article I posted in the other thread (same subject) says they don't classify it as Briareum anymore. It's also not classified as Clavularia anymore LOL.

Could you tell me where to find the thread with the article in it. Just wondering how someone can say that its not briareum even though that's it's taxonomy at the genus level. Unless they have changed that whole classification of gorgonian, which could be the case cause I by no means cruise around marine biology journals and things of that nature.

Just wanted to let you know I am only curious for my own knowledge not questioning yours. No ill will intended SushiGirl.

No ill will taken! If you look at the OP's profile you should be able to find their other posts under the Statistics tab, the thread has the same name as this one...I'm on my phone, which makes it difficult to hunt stuff down. I'm confused, as well. Apparently this coral has gone through 3 classifications so far, and we both know they never send any of us the memo! I would love it if someone could find the most current classification, my searches aren't yielding anything but more confusion.
