would the button polyps cause my green star polyps to turn white or is there another problem. they are only turning white along the edge that is close to the button polyps.

just not sure if this is normal

thanks

lighting is t5 ho 4x54w and all of my tests came back good. the rest of the gsp are doing fine(5x5 square) just along the edge with the button polyps is white

It's certainly possible...could you try moving one or the other, to see what happens?

IME GSP sometimes "self-destructs," turns white and dies off, and then regrows, but I've only seen this in the middle of colonies, not on the edges.

Newgrowth on my GSP is usually light colored and whitish on the edges, it actualy gets a dark dusty purple color when it is dying off, IME. Maybe the GSP is about to grow over the buttons? I had a colony in my 10g just engulf a kenya tree frag, and in my 40 is is slowly growing over some yellow polyps (that are almost as evasive as it is). It is also slowly covering the back wall of the 40G. Nice speciman otherwise.

I had the same problem before! I had a buttom polyp and a GSP in the same rock and my GSP grows in the direction of the BP and my GSP polyps in that side started to turn white! I cut the piece of the Buttom Polyp that was touching my GSP and in a short time they get their color back! So i suggest you can do the same....=]

thanks, i moved the buttons about a week ago and the gsp have started to have color come back. not as bright as the inner polyps but i suspect they will in time

thanks for the replies
