GSP, WSP Taking Over

When I started my new reef in May I thought a nice sprig of GSP would spruce things up while I wait for the params to settle so I can introduce some SPS. Spruce it did, and in fact is now encroaching on the aformentioned SPS.

Mostly its on the rocks I intended it to be, so that parts not so bad. But now its growing tendrils that span rock to rock. I tried to scrape it back without disturbing the rockwork, but this seems to stimulate it to grow more.

Incidentally, my WSP is on the move too but the GSP got a better foothold I guess.

Suggestions would be great.

Hi,

If you don't want to tear your rocks apart you could try somehow cutting off the light supply to see if that gets rid of them. Make a two part expoy matt and lightly press it over the GSP so you can pry it off later. The only way I know to get rid of them is to scrape them off the rocks. Even that might take two or three attemps.

Ironically, I used to bring small pieces of GSP to past swaps, I would sell them all in the first 1hr.

I've kept it at bay for years, the key is to isolate from your main rock work. Otherwise, it can be a scourge.

Of the green I have two rocks, about 4" square each. No pics but its the standard GSP.

I would trade a chunk of it for a couple of fist sized pieces of fully cured quality live rock. I bought just a little less rock than I needed for my tank in May and a couple more pieces would be a big help.

PM if this seems like a deal for you. Of course a frag of something would be neat too. I also have some kenya trees that can go home with you if youre willing to attach them yourself.

BTW I have been trying to make a meeting for a while now. I just travel a lot and its been tough. If I made the frag swap it would be a miracle.

Hopefully, since it's on a Saturday this year, a lot more people will be able to make it.....(if it's not still snowing in April.....again)

Honestly I dont want to go to the store and buy live rock cause I have been trying to do it all without taking new stuff out of the reef, so I would prefer to trade someone for rock thats been in their tank for a while for biodiversity and environmental reasons.

Dont get the wrong idea, I still buy fish and stuff but what you can get from local folks is way better than buying it from the store if you can do it.

If you really want to buy something PM joe22883. Most of my stuff came from his awesome collection from the easy stuff to the harder stuff. He was very nice to me price-wise and somebody other than me has to pay that guy's electric bill!
