Gulf seaweed in refugium

We are down here at the beach and the.seaweed is really heavy.
Has anyone ever tried to put any of the seaweed in their refugium?
I just thought I might.bring a few strands back and see how it does.
I know there is always the chance of hitchhikers, but would there be any other reservations not to do it?

I tried it a few years back, it all died though, didn't last long for me

i think they require an insane amount of light. cause sure enough they just shrink till there is nothing

Well I was all excited about it but it rained cats and dogs the last 24 hours we were there. So I did not get back out to the beach to get some. So much for the grand experiment!
