Its finally time, i have decided on my tank and it will be made by Envision Acrylic and will be a 48x48x24 1/2 cube that will be made out of 1" acrylic my question is i want to run vortechs in this tank, nothing personal against tunze but i need a wider spread then what a tunze pump can do, i know that vortechs say they can work up to 3/4" glass but can they work on 1" acrylic? i know with most magnetized products they can work on thicker acrylic then glass does anyone know if this is true with Vortechs?

Chris Ward (Cward) had an acrylic tank that size for sale awile back, dont know if he sold it or not... Might be worth asking him.

GEO built and a past TOTM.

I thought I would pipe in here for a sec. You might want to wait until they are shipping them with the variable controller. Otherwise, they are going to charge you $100 per unit for upgrade with a $50 rebate.

*edit* I just saw your post on the Ecotech forum. I guess they won't work with the 1". I wouldn't be too disappointed. As a Vortech owner for 1 year now, although they generate massive flow, I think you'll get more reliability from Tunze's.

Let me know how the controller works for you. My tank is temporarily out of commission so I am holding off on the upgrades until later.

Overall they are good pumps with wicked flow. I received early production (Fall '06) units that had to go back 4 times for service. I am assuming they worked out the kinks since then.

I too would wait until the new wireless controllers are out. I have two tunzes on a controller and a vortech in the same tank. I have 3/4" glass and both products stick no problem. If you are really gung ho, buy from a dealer with no restocking fee and try the magnets....if they are no good, send it back unused.

The new controllers are out and shipped. Just hard to get your hands on one.

really that would be cool but its not true. they have not been FCC approved as of yet an none have shipped.

ahh so Dan does have the controlled ones then?

Not likely. However, I am sure he can get them when they come out.

yeah he said that ecotech told him his had the controller, i wonder if that just means they are ready but not actually controllable yet

Thats a good question. As far as I know, they weren't shipping any yet. In fact, its my understanding they will only be shipping the stand alone controllers as an upgrade and that they won't shipping them with the pumps until until they exhaust their current inventory of pumps with the old drivers. I really hope that isn't the case for new owners. However, I have to be honest, its been my experience with them to date. IMO, they started marketing this way too early.

I wonder if they were implying the old driver which is adjustable?

could be but the marketing too early thing i think is more of the FCC not approving it or them not realizing it needed proof, they were supposed to be out the beginning of september and then like 2 days before shipment they start saying the FCC wont let them sell it yet, im not sure who is to blame for that one

This has been my frustration with Ecotech. Originally the single controllers were supposed to be out in early 2007, then moved back to March then September....

They have a neat product and are a small company so they deserve to be cut some slack. I need two more pumps for my setup (which still hasn't gotten off the ground since my move). For me to do so, I will need the controller option. However, I have taken a wait and see attitude before purchasing anymore Vortechs.
