H2O is back!

Chad, Id definatly like to come by and check the tank out. Im trying to get ideas on maintenance issues and would like to see the "behind the scnes" of your tank as well. LMK when Sarah and I can run by.

Phil, Ive been kicking aorund ideas and relentlessly reading threads. Im a big fan of the 20ks, so I think Ill end up with 400w teamed with 110w VHOS. Ive seen some good 24" deep tanks with 250s and even 175s, but Im taking a big PAR reduction by going up to 20k. I just like the look so much more though. Im hoping to get by one of these local guys houses that has the 12k refluxes (hint, hint, self invite :P), but I think 20ks will end up in my future. I overkilled the wattage on my 75 (250s) and ran 20ks. I had very good success and I think I will end up approaching this tank the same way.

Ill have pics up of the preliminary stand work soon. I think I unloaded the camera at home this time, and Im at work right now without them  Its nothing spectacular at this point, but at least its progress :D

now the bulbs i got everyone around here were the 10k reeeflux, the 12k look even more blue. if i were you i would make sure to get hqi ballast that way you won't lose the par are the higher k bulbs.

Can you get me pricing on some lighting then? I know you said you get some good deals on pumps and stuff. I guess I need to get you a list of stuff Im looking for. If not where do you guys reccomend. Everything I see thats HQI is for DE bulbs. Are they interchangable?

No HQI can run a standard SE in a mogel socket. There i virtually no difference between the reeflux 10k w and w/o actinics. I am going to take mine off today. I thought you might like that option as VHO's were to blame for your fire.

Wow! Hey Pat, Yeah Ive decided on the ASM. The guys around here that have them, like them. Ive never heard a complaint, so Im going to be going with the G4 and running it with the recirculation mod. It will get its feed from the drain of the overflow.

Chad, PM being typed right now :D

Well I've been slowly putting my stand together.

I've got some pics to share. I was going to document it well, buy I don't know where the middle shots are :P I've got the beginning and where it stands now. I guess the others were unloaded at work.

All the pieces cut and ready for assembly.

The bottom.

And how it stands now with shelves and the inside parts stained and oiled.

I put a shelf across the back for the CL pumps, and shelves on the ends for other goodies. I'm never good at organizing, but with a lot of places to put stuff, maybe it'll all end up in the stand

I will be trying to figure out the best way to mount three doors without having a permanent center post. I went ahead and tripled up the front 2x4s for peace of mind, so it'll definitely hold without anything else structural. I've got a 63 1/2" opening if you guys have any ideas.

LMK what you guys think.

Landon- I think it looks great. Just remember, we have nice stands because of our spouses. ;) Now you have to make the aquarium look good, which should be no problem for you. :)

Keep up the good work.

Rick

Rick, Ill let you know when I need some finishing help on it.

Phil, I rocked a black AGA stand for 5 years, and a cool "oak" pine one for 3 more. Its all good. Id probably be using one this time if they made them 40" tall.

Havent done much on the stand lately. Ive got some wood and some ideas though :D

Stephen did get me the top frame to replace the busted one. I got the old one off. A dremel, a razor knife, a puddy knife, and some elbow grease made short work of it.

Here are some pics of the process.

Looks great Landon. Gosh, what a tan too! Must be nice living in a warmer climate! :)

 Its supposed to get down to freezing tonight....And, thats not me :eek1: I was the camera man. We are really slow at work so I had a couple of bored helpers. We got it off and cleaned up in about 45 minutes. It would have been a 2 hour job by myself.

BTW, even though it gets cold here, I could never live up there where you are!
