H2O2 to get rid of algae, and dino!

Hey guys, I'm new to this posting stuff but I decided I wanted to share my success story with everybody. So recently I've been battling dino in my 40 ga. rimless and substrate less tank.

Let me tell you a little about my tank before I move forward.

40 gallon, corner overflow, ~15 ga. sump. I run only a sock, live rock and some chaeto in the refugium. I also have a media reactor w/ GFO and a small fluval skimmer rated for 40 ga. I plan on upgrading soon, but you all know how this hobbie hurts the wallet.

Anyways, let me apologize if I forget the exact specs of the equipment. It's been awhile since I've established this tank and my memory isn't the best out there.

LED Current Marine Orbit
I have approximately 500 GPH + Return pump (no clue) and a overpowered powerhead that pushes about 1000GPH (though this is not always on)

I also use chemi clean blue and carbon.

So recently I've been in a never ending battle with Dino. I noticed that hair algae started growing and some cyano as well. I tried water changing, I tried to skim wet and empty the cup more often, I tried siphoning the dinos. I also tried to do total 24 hour blackouts as an attempt to starve it out. I tried no water changes. I did hours on hours of research to determine what I could do to rid my tank of dinos.

It's been about 5 days since I've started dosing my tank with H2O2 (3%, the common one you find at your local Walgreens, Rite-aid, Walmart). I turned the lights off and turned up the flow. I also performed one 10 ga. water change right before I started dosing. I always dosed at night (for the tank, since I have the schedule on so that I can see it when I get home) and I continuously poured the daily amt. of phyto into my refugium so that my pod population can continue thriving.

This tank has been established for approximately 6-7 months. I am proud to say that the fight with dino looks like its over.

I will attach some pictures. The first one, I would like you guys to notice where the water returns to the tank from my sump. Look at those outlets and you will notice massive amounts of air bubbles.

The second pictures is how my tank looks now. I actually rearranged my tank about 3 hours ago because I got tired of how my rocks look, but on the 5th day I woke up and found 0 air bubbles.

The brownish slime was gone, my cyano looks almost all gone. I still have a little issue with hair algae but I just changed out my GFO so I think that will solve the problem soon.

Let me know what you guys think :)

looks good! so you did a 5 day blackout? i bet that had a lot more to do with your success than the peroxide.

Most likely GFO will help control the algae but will not really get rid of it. Usually instead of dosing H2 in the system i try to use the Magnesium trick and raise it to 1500 for a couple weeks.

I actually only did a 24 hour blackout and dosed every day. I then raised the lights to 4 hours and have kept it 4 hours since. The blue lights stay on and dim for the next 2 hours so in total, the lights are on for 6 hours.

Care to share details of your dosing procedures? Did you just add to the tank vs. spot treating? ML per day?

Sure! Sorry many, been busy at work among other things so I forgot to check if anyone responded to my thread. Anyways, let me see.

I tried spot treating twice, once directly on all the dino, and the second on some hair algae. Every other time I would just dump it right in where the flow was strong.

ML per day was approximately at 5mL. I didn't care enough to make sure it was exactly on 5 but I would say 5mL give or take 0.25mL. Once, I did dose twice within 24 hours.

I also had a super dino infested shelf piece. I took that out before I started attack the dinos because I felt that was the biggest portion of it. Thankfully I didnt add any coral on it yet.
