Had babies this morning!

I went down to the basement to feed my seahorses this morning when I realized that my male seahorse had given birth! The lucky thing is, I must of forgotten to turn the pumps back on last night after their last feeding and all of the seahorses were still in the main tank! His pouch didn't get as big as I have seen it before in pictures, and only started thinking he was pregnant earlier this week. This batch was rather small, and only about 50 babies total. Its amazing to think that I only got these horses maybe a month ago from Beth.

However, after scooping them out of the tank, about half of them are already on the bottom motionless :( The remaining ones are still swimming, but a few are itching. Pathogens from the main tank? Wish I had bbs going. Next time I'll be ready!

Nice!

Being that they are bigger than the dwarf, are you able to feed with bbs?
horses really amaze me, and I am now thinking of starting a nano.
Could be months until I can be ready, but hopefully sooner.
I got clowns just starting to spawn, so it is a time consumer there.

I had to go out and buy bbs last night, and this morning they have yet to hatch, so i'm hoping the little guys hang in there until after work. I've gotten a ton of awesome info from the seahorse ORG so I clean the tank with hydrogen peroxide (as well as bbs eggs) to help sterilize everything. Which should help stop an introduction of any parasites or pathogens.

Clowns sound like fun! How do you feed them during the day when your away? Seahorses supposedly need food every 3 hrs :( I can sneak a few into my office, but not the whole set up lol).

I don't know anyone that feeds their seahorses every 3 hours. My fry get fed 3 - 4 times a day. Now that they are starting to take frozen I only feed 3 times.

Don't worry about them not hitching right away, they like to hang out at the top. You could put an airline near the top to disturb the surface of the water and this will discourage them from floating around up there......

A friend that had SH told me that his are born at sunrise around 6:00 am. Is this true?

Sometimes.. my reidi have babies between 5-5:30 but then there are some erectus that I have heard have babies in the afternoon. Morning seems to be the normal time but there are exceptions.
