So I noticed that most people log in to "look" at a post or what not but no one really talks on here.. That is the point of a forum! I mean seriously! Where is everyone! I always notice people on here looking but no one is saying anything.... Anyways I am done ranting so if you could, I would just like to know why no one talks on here.. Can anyone tell me if there is even meetings anymore? I mean I have talked to a few people and they dont seem to know.. So I would like to..

It has been hit and miss from the beginning. At first it seamed like alot of people would attend the meetings, but after 8 months it deminished to nothing. I tried to host a meeting at my house last summer and only Moon Power and her mom showed up. It turned out to be a great visit from a friend, but very disapointing cuse I was looking forward to having many experienced eyes critic my set up. I wanted to know what I was doing wrong or what could be improved upon. That is when the club thing lost it's appeal for me. Not to mention all the food I tried to give away to the neighbors or send home with Peggy. That's my two cents..........

It seems to me that no one is really interested. I mean we had I think what 3 groups of people from ABQ show up to that Aquarium tour. The other guys had more. I talked to Sean ( i think it was) there and he basically said meetings were getting together once a month to drink beer.. I was kinda shocked when I heard that.. Have you looked at the web site for NMOK? Im not going to even start with that. Well I was hoping to find a good local club here but from the looks of it that wont happen. I mean even worse we are loosing stores in town. 2 so far I heard about another wanting to sell.. I mean Santa Fe lost one. Seems to be no interest here in SW tanks. So For all of you that read this prove me wrong! If your reading this and still want to have a local club or something of sort post it below and let me know what you would like to see happen! I mean it looked like a good club before so why not now!? I know there is people in and around ABQ that have SW tanks where are you?

I used to check this place regularly but stopped for all the reasons you cited.
I spend more time on another board cause people actually want to interact over there.

This place has been like this as long as I can recall.
I know it gets slower in the summer... if thats even possible!

I have been on other boards as well but nothing local.. I have been looking for one and I found one.. Except I think I have talked to what... maybe 4 people? Wow interesting forum.. What other forum are you apart of? I am trying to revive this place so we can have a local club and a place for all locals to interact.. I am responding to your other post now..
 
One thing for certain. You cannot brow beat folks and expect to get good interaction from it. If you are sincerely interested in more participation then there is no substitute for taking a strong leadership role.

Volunteer to host meetings, make sure you get the word out. Think of some topics of discussion, research them, advertise on the list what people can expect if they come. Start a tank thread, ask lots of questions.

From what I've seen the people here are friendly enough, but there are lots of choices for where to spend our time. Right now there isn't a lot of reason to spend that time here. Changing that is going to take a lot more than complaining about it.
 
I am not complaining about anything! I am simply asking why everyone has gone. Take a look at post 2, he tried to host a meeting and no one showed.. So I doubt putting up pictures of my tank and attempting to host a meeting would suddenly get people interested again.. If you look at the last threads on the site I either started them or commented on them. I am talking on the site actively and trying to get others to as well.. The reason why there is as you put it "there are lots of choices for where to spend our time. Right now there isn't a lot of reason to spend that time here." is because no one is doing anything!! I mean that trip to the Aquarium was planned by the other group! I am still looking for an active local club but so far nothing. I am not trying to take a leadership place here but want people to interact on here.. I think I have seen more "views" lately then posts! I have a few good ideas for meetings just no where to host them.. Kinda hard for all of you to fit in an apt..
 
It is quite sad the de-evolution of this forum..I think a lot of neebie reefers out there think there is not quite anything going on in Albq...I would have to say there are many aquariums being set up daily and reefers out there more than willing to give a hand if asked( as I can say I have if you know me)..
I have been doing sw in Albq. for 10+ yrs. and have seen the up and downs of this ..In fact NNOK has been the third club in NM..All sooner or later have dissolved..Although NMOK had at some point a very high turnout and membership.. I think a neebie on RC would see this as a dead forum...many things have happened in the last year: bitter store rivalries, stores opening/closing, some of the club wanting to go one direction, while others wanting to control the direction..It is true there is not much going on right now (at least on the surface), so this really would be a good time to start over as much of this is behind all of us..
DONT THINK FOR A SECOND THAT THIS IS HOW THINGS REALLY ARE IN ALBQ.
(seriously if you dont know who I am, then you probably havent been a reefer for very long)
 
I agree Eric, this forum was more popular at one time. Im sure the slow down has a lot to do with the slowdown of the overall SW business in Abq. It's gotten really thin out there. And the whole 'politics' thing sure can't help.

But.... you have to admit, this forum has always been slow.
A lot of view and very few posts!

At any rate its GREAT to see there is still SOME life in this forum!
 
I would be willing to host a meeting in the near future. I dont know if I will be able to host in August since I have to go to BYU game on the 31st for work. But maybe I can host a September meeting. Also I am in the process of starting a 125. So if you want to help PM me and we can get together.

BTW I agree with Eric. That all that bad mojo is behind us now and we can move forward. Just my 2 cents.
 
Well like I said I would love to have a local club that has people that are interested in the club. I would host meetings but an apt is kinda small.. Seems like we may have some people that are still in to the club now all we need to do is grow it out..
 
Now this is what I like to see...lots of constructive conversation. I was beginning to wonder if the economy had killed the saltwater hobby in ABQ.

I love that people are getting active again - the key thing to keeping any club/group going is good constructive discussion and a healthy level of participation. After attempting to host two meetings this summer and having only two people show up (Thanks Shawn) I had pretty much given up.

Hopefully now that the summer is over we'll start to see people come out of the woodwork.
 
I would thing a BBQ before summer is done would be fun. I have a projector that I could bring and set up and watch movies on.. As long as there is a wall to project on or a place to hang a sheet.. Just an idea.. Its like having your own personal movie theater at your house.. LOL
 
Awesome idea with the projector. I have been wanting to do that since we moved but they are not something we can afford right now.

Speaking of woodwork. If anyone has a chance give Michael a ring to visit. He made his stand and it is awesome!
 
Ya it is pretty nice and they can be a bit pricey.. I went to see the dark knight the other day and I was like wow a theater is no big deal any more.. I basically have the same thing and I dont have to pay 40bucks to watch a movie..
 
Yeah I saw the Dark Knight this sunday; it was good but a bit long in the tooth.


I'm down for the movie & bbq big time I don't want summer to fizzel out and not have a chance to team up with everybody. I have a misting system that rings my back patio where I bbq and it helps lower the temp to make it more bearable.

my budget has been really busted of late with the high energy prices ; but I'm trying to put together some cash and order some GARF rocks. I have a small aquarium (a solana 39 gallon) so my space is limited and i want a smart looking a effective rock structure for such a small space I've figured garf rocks would bring that uniuque and porus structure.

I don't want to incure the mess and assocated costs of trying to gather all the raw materials to make it at home. any ideas and feedback ?
 
So where did everyone go? All of a sudden no more posts! So anyone still wanting to do a meeting? I know a few people offered to have one at there place. If every one is still up for that lets see if we can get one planned. I will bring the projector and all for movies.. Any ideas for a meeting or just BBQ and MovieS?
