Haddoni Anemone Q's

I'm considering getting a Haddoni Anemone. I have read the FAQ and searched the threads. Will a Haddoni have any issues with a large CC substrate? What is a good online vendor to purchase Haddonis other than brown or green?

I would provide it with a fine sand substrate since they like to bury their foot.

I prefer to examine anemones prior to purchase.

So buying local is the only option with these? Selection isn't always the best in LFS's. The guys at the LFSs I spoke with this morning weren't sure if they get in Haddoni's of Gigantia's. They just knew they get carpets now and then.

PS, how do I tell the difference between a Haddoni and a Gigantia? Something about dots on the underside?

Last time I was in IPF (which has been several weeks now) they had just gotten in a beautifully colored red carpet, which I would guess was Haddoni. However, the mouth was gaping pretty bad and I would bet that it is probably toast by now but you could check if you haven't already.

Also, last time I was in SoM, Hung still had a reddish haddoni(?) that he has had in there forever. I don't know if it is still there but if it is, you can be guaranteed that it is in good health based on how long it had been there. I would guess that he wants a pretty penny for it since no one has snatched it up.

I check Iowa Pet. Tim mentioned the Red carpet, but didn't know what kind it was nor how to tell. I didn't think of Coralville. I'll have to call tomorrow.
Thanks
Marcus

PS, I did find out enough to know that I won't be ordering from LiveAquaria. They refuse to disclose the color or the species before shipping. You just get what you get.

mwood- check out this link. It has some great and fun to read info on many of the trades most common anemones and a good consice list of requirements. I found it very useful when I was researching the care of carpets a few weeks ago.

Also:
hadonni have very short and very compact tentacles and not verracae (spots) on their base.
gigantea have longer tentacles spaced a little wider apart (not by much) and they do have colored verracae (spots) on their base.
I also highly recommend www.coralreeffarm.com . They are the online store I bought my fantastic red hadonni from. They won't send you a sick looking anemone. Communicate with them and they will make sure you get a good one. I'll be going back to them for a royal blue as soon as they get one!
I'm new to these guys to and certainly no expert, but I hope this helps.

Thanks, I'll have to watch for one on their website. I already contacted them about the purple and yellow ones they have, but they are not Haddoni's. Are you on a waiting list for the Blue or do you just check every now and then?

I'm on a waiting list for a nice royal blue, purple, and pink hadonni. Its best to check with them every few days to see what they've got in.

Coral Reef Farm is local for me, and I will second the recommendations for that store. I've never mail-ordered from them obviously, but they have a nice setup and seem to have good, healthy stock.

Can someone give me some basic handling instructions. How do you move it from the bag or bucket to the tank without it latching on to your hands? I know you want to drip acclimate and all, I'm just not sure how to get it into the tank to the spot you think it would be happy.

Use gloves and gently touch the base of the anemone. One thing I do know is if the anemone grabs hold of you, don't yank yur hand away from it. give it time to figure out that you are not food and then let release you on its own.

When moving it to the tank, I assume it will be in the air for a second. Any issue with this?

Thanks for all the help.
