Haddoni? Anemone Question

First of all - I think this is a Haddoni after doing a lot of research on the subject. Picked it for for $20 at Petco being sold as a carpet nem because my clowns completely ignored the BTA on the other side of the tank. Kinda hard to tell from the pics here - and I never took a a picture of him out and about.

So the situation is that he, after being in the tank for 4 days, decided to wedge himself into a little cave/feedthrough and attach to the rock upside down. I'm sure he's attached firmly because I tried to blow him off with a powerhead. I know this isn't normal behavior, but if he's still attaching himself, he's not quite on death's door is he? I'm not willing to risk a rock fall to get him out at this point either, so I'm playing the waiting game.

Since it was from a PetCo, I am going to assume that it was under poor lights. What lights do you have?

I am going to guess that you aren't acclimating it to your lights -- I would suggest putting 3 layers of window screening b/t your lights and the tank (( with egg crate supporting it )). I would remove one layer every 5-7 days. I have always done it that way when acclimating a new anemone to my lights.

But, do be on the safe side....
What size tank?
What are your parameters? (( with numbers ))
How long has the tank been set up?
What do you have for flow (( IME, Haddonis aren't fans of high flow )).

Lastly, I haven't had good luck mixing Haddonis with other anemone species.

Thanks for the quick response.

System is a 40 breeder with a 20 gallon refugium.

Salinity is 1.026sg
Calcium is 420ppm
Alkalinity is 10dkh
That's all I measure on a regular basis.

Tank's been up for about 5 months started with 50/50 establish live rock from an old tank and marco dry rock. Lights are 4 39W T5 set about 4 inches from the water's surface. Flow is primarily from an mp40w, but I don't think that's an issue as the spot I chose for his home is right next to my Xenia (on the softy side) which aren't exactly being buffeted to death. My SPS over on the high flow side are showing full polyp extension so I don't think water params are the issue.

You may be right about the light as it was under a single actinic bulb at the pet store. I'll see about picking up the window screening tomorrow.

Thanks for the welcome too! I had no idea that I'd never posted here. I usually hang out on my local boards. I also forgot to mention that the clowns, from within the hour I put in the new nem, started hosting the BTA. Really cool to have this at home to observe at all times of the day.

If the carpet is healthy it will naturally find a better spot. From your second pic it doesn't look like the carpet is firmly attached to the rock but the pic is not super clear.

I have manually moved my Gigantea in the past due to it moving up my glass and too close to the powerhead. But that is after more than a year of being in the tank and knowing it's super healthy. For a newly purchased anemone I'd leave it alone for now and see what it does. Also it might be a good idea to try feeding it to keep its health up...especially since it's not getting much light.
