Haddoni & BTA - same tank?

Silfer

Gonnae no dae that.
What's your thoughts on a Haddoni and a BTA in the same tank?

I have a 3 footer with 2 cinnamons only, they currently host my 20cm Green BTA, but i'm taking delivery of a lovely blue haddoni on Thursday and wanted your thoughts on their compatability together.

The hopefull placement for the haddoni will be about 30cm from the BTA, the haddoni is 6".

Would running carbon in a reactor 24/7 be a good idea?

Thanks

No problems mixing those at all as long as they are bumping each other. BTAs get along with all nems it seems

Your tank size 3 feet would mean close watching I had a gig haddoni and a rbta all in the same tank a few months all had happy homes.my tank is a 180

I have a 125g sea grass tank that has: a few sps, several very large old RBTAs, one haddoni and two magnificas. The red haddoni decided to spawn and it killed all sps, bleached all 7 rose abemones and nearly killed two largest roses. The two largest ones lost all tentacles. The magnificas weathered the incident a little better, but not by much and only fish survived were the clowns!
Mixing in general may be ok, just gotta guarantee no spawning.:)

Yes it can be done. Make sure to run alot of carbon and watch to see if there is any unhappiness amongst them. I have an rbta, haddoni, and gig all in the same tank. SO far so good...

cool thanks guys, my new blue gig arrives Thursday, I hope it does okay as it's arriving through the mail... little nervous.

Shu tin,
Your system is massive and thats what it did. I wish i never sold my mertenssi. Got any?

Personally in small tanks i dont reccomend mixing carpets especially haddonis. There is not enough water in the tank to keep them from eventually engaging in warefare.

Good luck.....I haven't had any success with online bought gigs! Please let us know how your's arrived and doing.

I tried it years ago -- with an S. haddoni that I had had for 5 years (( at the time )) and some established E. Quads., shortly after adding the E. Quads (( and running carbon )) the Haddoni started to move constantly. It wasn't until I sold off all the E. Quads did it stay in place. I had the same results with a different Haddoni and an M. doreensis; that was enough for me never to mix a different species with an S. Haddoni again. I would for sure not attempt this in a 3 foot tank, seeing that an S. Haddoni can easily get to a foot and half and an E. Quad can/will get up to 15" across.

Todd,
I noticed the same thing with my haddoni didnt get happy till i removed the btas. Wanna hear one better ?

A local reefer has been buying BTAS off me and they keep dying. I kept giving him his cash back because he said they keep dying. After the last one died, i asked what he had in his tank and tells me he has a 15 inch haddoni.

I told him thats why the btas keep dying. I personally feel that haddoni are the nastiest carpet. Ive had giganteas, mertenssi. None killed more then the haddoni. I only keep haddoni with haddoni

Wow, that is brutal, but in the end I am not surprised.

About a year ago (( time really doesn't matter )) I was changing out a tank. Moved an LTA into my 75, that had an S. Haddoni, the LTA was secured in a Tupperware container. I went back to working on the tank, 3 minutes later I look at the 75, the LTA is on top of the Haddoni, and the Haddoni is attempting to eat it. I have no idea how the LTA go there, but if I didn't know better I would say that the Haddoni used the "force" to pull it over. Love the things but they are devil mean.

received the anemone today, arrived in great shape. It was fully open in the bag, attached to the bag too and mouth tightly shut.

I drip acclimitised it for 2hrs and put it on my highest rock and it hasn't moved from there. Been in that spot for 7hrs now.

Quick pic after it went in, mouth actually opened a wee bit after going in, but is shut again now tightly, will try get better pics but I can never get the colour to balance as I see it to my eye:

I also wanted to ask, can I feed it a bit of krill or squid tomorrow to see how it responds?

It needs to colour up some, so how often should I feed it?

Looks really good considering shipping, etc. How sticky was it? Hard to tell if it's bleached or not as you say the colour balance is off.

For taking pictures of your tank, I can say my photos greatly improved when I started playing with some of the manual settings on my camera (I am assuming you're using a digital camera). Depending on which camera you have, you should be able to manually assign or change the colour temperature settings in some sort of custom or creative mode. What you are looking for is to change the colour temperature from the preset value (could be as low as 2300 Kelvin) to as high as it will go (mine topped out at 12,000K I think, which is a lot closer to the 16,000K or 17,000K that my tank actually is at). If you have a DSLR, you can also try bracketing your photos. Basically take one shot at their suggested Aperture and shutter speed. Then take one a couple of Aperture stops higher, then one a couple of Aperture stops lower. What you are doing with this is playing with the depth of field and colour saturation. I am still playing with all of this myself, but am finally starting to like a few of the photos I am getting.

Is that a Sexy shrimp that has already found your new Gig?

Hope this helps some.

Cheers,
Keith

Cheers for the advice mate, will work on better pics.

Re: Sticky, food does stick to it, but it doesn't seem interested (only food it's way was a little bit of squid that got blown into it and flake).

..and yeah that's one of my two sexy shrimp, didn't take them long to find it, now they never leave it :D

just gave it some krill and it took hold and is gobbling it up.

Had her for 3 days now. Hasn't moved from it's spot.. and it may just be me, but looks like the tips are getting darker already. I hope it does well. Her mouth has been tightly shut the whole time (even in the shipping bag) and has never deflated.

Dosing Kent Marine Iodine daily aswell to aid in it's return to full health.
