Haddoni is starting to bleach....

Well.. how to sum this up?? I'm an idiot? Yes, that will work, for now... :headwally:

Long story short.. a few weeks ago I took home a green Haddoni anemone. Overall it's been doing well, with the exception of the color starting to fade/bleach. This happened within a few days of adding my new light fixture....

I have a 90 gallon tank (standard dimensions) and upgraded from a 5 bulb, Aquactinics fixture to a 6 bulb ATI. I'm using all ATI bulbs that have pretty high PAR ratings.... I used a few pieces of egg crate staggered to increase diffusion, and a few pieces of glass that I let saltwater dry on (so it's cloudy). 2 bulbs are on from 1:30pm - 10:30pm, and all 6 bulbs are on from 4:30-8:30 (I have since cut back to 4:30-7:30pm).

Anyway.. after the switch, I noticed the carpet was reacting pretty well overall. It was expanding and looking happy... Mouth was closed very tight, it was sticky, and the body was opening during the daylight and closing reasonably well at lights out. Overall size of the 'nem increased gradually to about 14 inches diameter.

Parameters are testing out fine overall.. nitrite, nitrate, all zero. Phosphate is coming up as zero, but I don't have a low range test kit (I'm ordering a hanna checker tonight to be sure). Alk was a bit low at 7.3 yesterday, but I haven't noticed any swings. Calcium tested at 420.

No algae growth and SPS look happy. Fish are happy. Clowns are starting to jump in the 'nem but nothing that worries me, yet.

Tonight I'm going to the big-box retailer to buy some window-screen material. I'm going to add 5-6 layers, and I'll remove one each week. Yes, I should have done this in the beginning, but I thought the methods above would be fine.

My questions are as follows: What should I do in the meantime? Feed the anemone? Just observe and continue with water changes? What signs hould I look for specifically, both positive and negative? Any other tips/suggestions?

If it weren't for the color, I'd say my carpet was 100% happy.

Thanks...

Signs of stress that you should watch for are an open/mishapen mouth, bunching or limpness of the oral disc, and digging out or moving around the tank. When I was recovering a bleached haddoni it showed all these signs if I gave it too much light.

I would recommend the screening, but otherwise just feed, observe, and keep to your regular maintenance routine. FYI, haddonis can eat like nothing I've seen, so feeding it would be extremely ideal if it is bleaching. Maybe every other day.

Also, please post a pic if you can.

Thanks for the reply. Luckily the haddoni is doing none of the above... Oral disc looks great. No gaping...crunching/folding... No movement. (not even a little). I guess I'll just keep feeding and observing.

Given "perfect" water husbandry and feeding, what's a general timeline to recovery? I know there are many variables, but are we talking weeks? Months?
