Hair Algae Eater Suggestions?

Go ahead and get the starry blenny, they are one of the coolest fish and do one heck of a job with hair algae, i had a rock full of hair algae and he went over to it right away and started to mow it down in no time at all, then after that he sat there kinda saying look what i have just done buddy. Yep starry blenny all the way.

I would do a sea hare...... Ugly little guys but do a great job... If your tank has alot of algae that guy will triple in size in no time!

Are the sea hares toxic if nipped at or eaten? How big do they get? Do they get sucked into Tunze 6000 super streams, as i have 2 in the tank... Thanks

Depending on the species of sea hare they can get to be 10-12 inches in length. Yes, they could be sucked into the intake of a Tunze if it wasn ot not properly shielded. They can ink a tank when stressed or dying though this is not horrible if you have a good skimmer, some fresh carbon and do a water change.

I have four lettuce nudibrachs in my system now. They are working away at algae, but I don't see them as a solution to this algae phase. They came in at 2 to 3" in length.
I have had one get pulled through my VorTech! It roughed him up but he's still around (no ink either). And a second just got plastered to the side of my Tunze 6000, he's still hiding somewhere over that one. High flow is an issue for them, but they are doing supprisingly well IMO at getting around my tank.
They do seem to actively be seeking algae foods so they are contributing some. I have an Eibli Tang in QT I hope to add to help my existing Foxface with algae in the display. Although, the tang is not eating well as yet.

Sounds like its not a good idea at all, a rabbitfish sounds like a better idea than the sea hare. Thanks for the help though...

Sea hares and lettuce "nudibranches" are 2 different creatures.
Regardless of which - IMO your best bet is either to wait it out, do your best to keep a "clean" environment in the tank and manually remove as much as you can OR get either a foxface or magnificent foxface. Both are relatively reef-safe. We had a magnificent in our 180 display reef at the store and he never touched any of the corals (at least not that we were aware of).

Thanks, and i have heard a tond of people that love the Scribbled Rabbits for algae issues... I may grab one of those as well, but they are supposed to nip at corals; which scares me...
