the HA shouldn't be a problem and will likely fade if you have none in the tank. ( not a suitable environment, lucky you ) if it is attracting unwanted attention to the clam from fish / inverts it would be in you best interest to remove the clam and brush the shell to remove it.

the mushroom ( if it is, maybe your GF could take a better pick now? try shutting the pumps off when you do it ), regardless of whether or not it can sting the clam it will reproduced and start to spread on the shell. in time it can / will extend past the mantle and my begin blocking light from the clam. it would be best to remove the shroom by taking a razor blade and cutting close to the shell. take some extra time and try to scrap off as much genetic material as you can so they don't return. if you want you can propagate the shroom and start a little colony in a location of your choosing. ( free coral )

took some digging through old pics to find one........i think we can all agree majano have a heck of a sting, this pic shows them covering the side of a Derasa, the snail has the mantle retracted so you can see the clean white where the mantle was kept extended and covering it and it was in contact with the majano yet there is no tissue damage from their sting......

I gotta say, to me it looks like this clam is retracting its mantle due to irritation- and likely from the majanos. Sorry, Jetcat, you're just wrong.

believe what you want, if the retraction was from the majano the shell wouldn't be white it would be covered with algae because the mantle would of been regularly retracted allowing light on the shell.

Really? The clam shell is white because the light doesnt hit it? I thought it was white because it was newly developed shell. That snail mustve really been hauling as it has the WHOLE side of the mantle retracted!

I'll type this really slow so maybe you can comprehend it but it's not looking good for you..............IF the mantle was constantly retracted from the irritating stings from the majano as you oh so ignorantly suggest the shell would be covered with algae growth. was that slow enough??

Just sayin, people don't see the speed you type, so that really didn't make sense... matasw, I think your clam will be fine with the small amount of algae. I don't know much about the mushroom situation though!

Oh, I get it, thank you. So, with the mantle curled up like that, it wont continue to grow, and calcify new shell? Well I'm learning a lot from you and your 30 years of experience jetcat!

I find it quite laughable that people like you will come an criticize others for giving bad advice, and then make a comment like "nothing can harm a clam by stinging it". And then to post a picture SHOWING mantle irritation, and saying "its only the snail"??! You are being hypocritical and absurd. Open your eyes. If you want to grow carpet anemones or whatever on your clams, feel free. They will all end up like like the little one to the right of your derasa in the photo. But dont come and suggest it here, and not expect to get dissapproval.

Hey jetcat, my trigger fish ate all of my crabs yesterday. But it wasn't because he eats crabs- some fish food must've fell on the crab and thats what the trigger was eating. Makes sense huh? Even for a dummy like me!

Everyone's intelligence pails in comparison to JetCat's. Don't pay any attention to him. 90% of the posts I've seen of his are argumentative and offer no useful input to the conversation.

Matas, I would go ahead and remove the algae if you see that it's attracting critters. For example if you have emerald crabs that are coming over to feed on the algae and irritating the clam. I know you've also got a Vlamingi Tang that may decide to pick at it. Otherwise I would leave it alone and fade away.
