Hair Algae Starts! How can I AVOID?

I just started cycling my tank and was ghost feeding for the past three days and just started to see hair algae all over my rocks to start growing. It does not have the hair yet, but I know in a few days, the hairy part will come. How can I AVOID it from growing and how can I kill it? No livestock is in my tank, so I am not afraid to nuke it!

I heard about dosing hydrogen proxide. Does this work?

SIze of tank? Start a GFO reactor running. No reason not to.

29 gallon biocube. Will order one soon (next pay check)
I also read about this, which seems to have some good reviews.
API Algaefix Marine*

and did you say "no reason not to" for the hydrogen peroxide?

Which GFO reactor do you recommend?

No, for the GFO. I'm not fond of dropping various chemical agents into the tank: the chemistry is fairly delicate, and anything that gets in, stays in until broken down by some means... In the case of GFO, it doesn't stay in your tank: it absorbs phosphate and you throw it out. No phosphate---no hair algae.
The brand I use is Phosban. Personally, I'd advise waiting, because I know the GFO is safe, and I can't swear to the other two. If you disturb your tank chemistry it can nickle and dime you considerably trying to fix it. Someone with more experience with the peroxide might be able to advise you, but me, I'd hold out for the GFO: you're still cycling, and you've got plenty of time. It'll continue to be useful through your fishkeeping career--now and again the need pops up. Usually takes about 3 months to get the phosphate completely out.
