You will soon be asked to provide all of your tank's water parameters, equipment list, water change schedule, lighting period, etc etc etc. :D

Well,,,,,,,,,,

Welcome to the SLASH forum
What I would do is start off by pulling as much off as you can.
Then scrub the rock with a potato brush and keep dipping it in the waste water from a water change.

A good rule of thumb is the water change will help export nutrients that the algae is thriving off of. By scrubbing the rock you are taking it down to the point that your cleanup crew can be more affective. There is no way around the cycle so don't be discouraged.

Source water for your water changes needs to be looked at too. Make sure you are not adding phosphates in. Keep asking questions and you will get your answers. Hopefully we can give you enough info to help you research. Really thats what it is all about.

Without knowing any of your tank info from parameters to lighting but if I had to just make an assumption, I would:

Pull off as much as possible. (scrub if possible)
Cut down your lighting cycle
Water changes DAILY
Astreria Snails work AWESOME!

Good luck and welcome aboard!

If the tank is new and the bacteria load light, the water changes might take you back a few steps. I would not do daily water changes. Good try Justin

Other than that your advice is dead on.

Hey...come on steve
I don't know how long he's had his tank.
I hope it's been up for years so I can be right. It will be the first time I've been right since 1987!:D

In 1987 did you say "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles rule !!!!" ?
Cause I would have agreed with you.

Ummm. I guess I won't say that I just watched TMNT a couple days ago. Or that it is one of the games on one of my arcade games... Or that I just watched "secret of the ooze"...Umm, my kids wanted to

I have 3 arcades

2005 Golden Tee
Simpsons Bowling (setup like a golden tee)

3rd arcade game runs off a dos harddrive that has about 50 games on it like

TMNT
TMNT-Arcade
Mortal Kombat 1,2,3
Tekken 1,2,3,4
Double Dragon 1,2
Street Fighter Alpha
Donkey Kong
Mike Tyson's Punchout
NBA Jam
Simpsons
Astroids
Astroids Deluxe
Xmen
Xmen 2
Can't remember the others but about 50
Some games I couldn't get on there like pac man because they were made on a vertical screen.

So, if anyone ever wants a "classic game" which has about 30 games on it like galaga, etc... let me know and I'll put you in touch with the best in the business and the best price by FAR...I can't believe what the places like amini's wants to charge. He'll build it to your specifications. Screen size, games, etc... PLUS, he also owns a sign shop so he'll take an old dedicated box and put brand new graphics on it...Whatever you want. The one game I have with all them has simpsons graphics. I bought these when I should have been paying bills. LOL

The reef should be looking better tomm.

Well, if the tank is established and has been up for a lil while.......buy an angelfish! My midnight angel took care of ALL microalgae in the tank. It especially loved hairalgae
