Hair Algae????

I siphon it out when I clean my tank weekly. The best way to combat ugly algae is to encourage the growth of competing forms of algae, particularly coraline. Dosing kalkwasser, doing regular water changes, and having sufficient light will all help.

It hasn't gotten out of control. I've just started to notice small patches in the last couple days. I just want to handle it before it spreads. I tried siphoning it out but it didnt work too well for me.

I was given a beautiful rock that was covered with blue and purple mushrooms but unfortunately it also had lots of hair algae.... I placed it in my tank and started reading on ways to get rid of it but before I did anything I noticed my hermit crabs went to work on it within one day my hermit's completely cleaned it off

Lot's of things eat hair algae. I have had best luck with tangs, seahares, nudibranches, lawn mower blennies, and hermits.

I'd stay away from the margarita snails they are temperate species and don't live long in the home aquarium.
