how do i get rid of the stuff? its growing like crazy on one of my rocks and since that rock is sitting on the sand its in my sand to. i did a water change and sucked it out of my sand with the syphon. and its starting to come back again. any advice

the only advice i can give you is to stay on top of it. always try to remove as much as posible and try to find somthing that will eat it. the hair algae problems i've had have always eventually went away. you just have to keep on it.

if you can, take the rock out and brush all of the algae off in a bucket of salt water

others cannot say the same, but for me turbo snails and a fat lawnmower blenny helped wipe mine out a year ago and has never shown up again. I also plucked out what I could by hand and cut down on light time.

It will not grow unless you have the nutrients in the water it needs. Try doing water changes every few days for a couple of weeks and you will find it goes away.
