Take the plug out of the water, take a syringe with 3% h202 and apply on the algae, the h202 wont harm the polyps. I let it set for 2 min out of the water then rinse really well with fresh RO fresh and put them back in the tank. Gone next day garrenteed.
4 parts water : 1 part peroxide
will this work on any rock with hair algea or do the zoo's release something to the mix.
my presently fighting hair algea (pump on my skimmer died and didn't know it)
I treated my tank for 2 weeks to get rid of dino's and it cleaned up alot of other algea patches as well. Currently adding 4 ml per day (65 gal) and seeing its affects on algea. I have read a few articles on its wider application as an oxidizer of residual organics
This turned my zoas into bubble wrap. I tried this earlier today, and as I was walking the zoa rock back to the tank, I heard a popping sound and looked down to see some of my zoas full of air bubbles, one so bad that it exploded. Obviously the h2o2 made its way into some of the polyps and filled them with gas. I am hoping they survive it. Neither of us are too thrilled.
an update on my previous post: all the polyps are back to being open. There is still a bubble blister on the side of the polyp that had the most damage, but it decreases in size by the day. Hair algae isn't exactly gone either, though.
